Fix a failing Worker request

Seven checks pass in the local Cloudflare workerd runtime.

Completed with Codex CLI 0.163.0. This demonstrates this sample, not universal compatibility.

Start with the instructions

Read the actual workers-best-practices SKILL.md ↗

Instructions reviewed 2026-10-31. Publisher ownership and repository freshness are separate from this review and the example test.

Good for
  • Writing and reviewing Cloudflare Workers
  • Debugging request handling against a project’s installed runtime
Needs
  • Worker source, project configuration and installed runtime versions
  • Node.js and Wrangler for this local example
Limitations
  • This example checks one request handler, not a production deployment
  • Cloudflare access and deployment are separate steps

The input and actual output

Download the synthetic project and unchanged checks (ZIP). It contains no installed third-party skills. Install the pinned upstream skill separately after reviewing its license.

Before: GET /hello → 500
After: GET /hello → 200
{"message":"Hello, friend!"}

Inspect the actual solution: src/index.js.

Checks performed

  • Missing name, named, empty, whitespace and literal HTML inputs return expected JSON
  • Unknown route returns 404; POST returns 405

Test receipt, installed-file hashes and source binding (JSON)

Repeat it in a clean project

Unzip the input into a new directory. Use Node 24 for the JavaScript examples or Python 3 for PDF. Install only the selected source skill at the pinned revision above. Open a fresh agent session and confirm its skill list contains the installed skill; ask it to read SKILL.md before changing the input.

  1. npm ci
  2. npm test # reproduce the failing request
  3. Ask your agent to fix src/index.js only
  4. npm test # all 7 checks must pass

Compare the independently checked output and hashes with the receipt. Different agent versions can produce different code; the unchanged checks define the sample’s expected behavior.

Try it with your agent

Edit the task, then use the existing guide for Codex or Claude. Copying a prompt does not install or run anything.
